nothing wrong with the poetic as an expression of the subjective. A beautiful piece. Don't let the worms eat your ripe enthusiasms, please. :)

Perhaps this post could be a little more serious and touch on more interesting things... but, sighhhh... oh well. Time is precious and sometimes I'm a busy person - and to survive I need to laugh a little. There should be some more relevant and meaningful things here shortly.

Sorry if my humor is lost on you over Internet. Blame society.

MMMmmm...love what you talked about here. I hadn't really considered the role of dancing in this book before and there is so much really that dancing can represent. Also that last quote about Mirna...I guess we are just beginning to learn that she isn't so sweet and innocent.

Nice points. Indeed, this quote from Sophia is also a little strange for me. The radio is one of those things, that well... I still enjoy listening to, among other things (that I still enjoy doing). The news, music, the local stations, and even some of the ridiculous antics of AM talk radio to help get me through the day.

Hey rocinante! I love that quote about the radio. I've been a huge radio fan for a while - ever since I lived in the Central Valley of California and it was my only way of feeling connected with the rest of the poliical world - but I didn't mistake that for actual community. This was during the time of the "insurrectionary" movement of 1999-2001.

Clearly, the "killing of communication" is something we attribute to television and the interwebs, so it is really interesting to trace this back to the "one voice" of radio, especially when I'm also saying at the same time, "Hey, but not radio!" Interestingly, that 1999-2001 movement was heavily dependent on internet communications, and while that was often seen to be a strength, I haven't really seen it discussed as a weakness.

Great start, rocinante! Sheesh, if we think these letters are impressive in their length and detail and evocation of feeling, just imagine when we get so deeply lost in the ones that are forty, fifty pages long! And you are correct, the letter form has a lot to do with its capacity to communicate. So perhaps letter-writing is more than a lost "art" (as is so often said), but also a lost "capacity." And if the capacity that is revealed in a letter is a combination of truth-telling and truth-evasion, then in a series of letters we can see the critical challenges put to the production of truth, and delve into the murky beneath where the truth of oneself and one's being and one's desires are (or could be) available to be shared. Our current modes of "communication" (this time, the quotes are intended to convey scorn) have all sorts of interesting properties, but almost none of them have to do with truth, being, or desire.
